If someone with diabetes has been fasting they would expect a reading of 126 mg/dl or more, compared to a normal reading of less than 100 mg/dl.
They also define a period known as “pre diabetes”, where problems with the hormone insulin are beginning to generate issues with controlling blood sugar levels.
For people with this condition, two hours after a meal they would have a blood sugar level between 140 to 199 mg/dl, compared to a normal of below 140 mg/dl.
If diabetics have been fasting they should also have a blood sugar level of between 100 to 125 mg/dl, compared to a level of below 100 mg/dl in people who aren’t suffering from the condition.
