oDocsEye Care is set to release a novel ophthalmoscope in November.  oDocs Eye Care is a social enterprise founded in 2014, brainchild of Dr Hong Sheng Chiong. The social enterprise designs, and manufactures professional, and portable eye care adaptors that can be used by any person with a smartphone. Its mission is to end preventable blindness by ensuring that professional eye care is accessible to all.

The oDocs nun is the latest smartphone ophthalmoscope capable of both mydriatic and non-mydriatic retinal imaging. It is a portable retinal examination device that can be used with a broad range of smartphones running on the iOS and Android platforms. The device can be used independently as a handheld ophthalmoscope or in conjunction with a smartphone.

“The direct ophthalmoscope was invented 160 years ago, the optics remain the same, no wonder many physicians struggle with it”, said the company’s founder Dr Hong Sheng Chiong.

“It is time for a complete upgrade”

This may be a game changer especially in the primary care sector.  Headaches and visual symptoms accounts for over 10% of all GP visits.  One of the important things to assess is the optic disc to exclude papilloedema.  With oDocs nun, the clinical assessment can be done with ease.  The company hope to make it a standard piece of equipment in every practice.

This latest innovation is expected to be ready by November, when the company will start shipping out pre-orders. The official launch is first quarter of 2019.  oDocs Nun Specifications   customers who pre-order the device will save up to $170 and receive it before next year.
