AUM Cardiovascular, a company out of Northfield, Minnesota, won FDA clearance for its CADence system, which is a novel combination of a stethoscope and ECG in one device. The CADence is intended to be used by primary care physicians to help spot suspicious cardiac murmurs that should be referred to cardiologists.
The physician places the device repeatedly on four spots on the chest and each time activates it to record. Once this is done, the CADence transfers its data to an online processing system that crunches the data and provides results within minutes. The physician can then use this report to decide whether to clear the patient or to seek out a further referral.
In addition to the current analysis software, AUM Cardiovascular is promising to also make available a new algorithm that is pretty good at detecting arterial stenosis, a common condition resulting in poor cardiovascular health.
