Over 40% of physicians in a Medscape survey said they had been sued for alleged malpractice at least once. Annual malpractice premiums for most doctors cost more than $10,000, and around 1 in 3 court awards exceed $500,000. Physicians said improving doctor-patient communications and running lawsuits past a screening panel could help.
