When we talk about the comfort foods in India, rice is often considered as one of the grains that are enjoyed in different forms at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 02/4 Fresh rice or leftover rice
As per a video post by celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija, leftover rice is healthier than fresh rice. According to her post, leftover frozen rice has a lower glycemic index as compared to freshly cooked rice, making the former a healthier choice for blood sugar and weight management. (Image: istock)
03/4 What study says?
According to studies, the process of cooling the cooked starch is called starch retrogradation, and it converts the digestible starch into a resistant one. And it has been proven that it is easier for the body to digest and break down digestible starch, which raises blood sugar levels. And on the other hand, resistant starch is difficult for the body to break down, and since it is probiotic, it does not cause any harm to the body. (Image: istock)
04/4 How to store leftover rice to avoid contamination
When it comes to storing leftover rice, people often think that it might get contaminated by microorganisms like fungi and bacteria. Hence, the best way to store leftover rice is to pack it in air-tight containers. Also, make sure that the container is refrigerated and not left at room temperature. The leftover rice, once stored well, can last up to 2-3 days and should be served at the same temperature, without reheating. (Image: istock)
