FDA Clears EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio Glasses for U.S. Market

EssilorLuxottica has secured FDA clearance for its Nuance audio glasses, a groundbreaking solution that integrates advanced hearing technology with prescription eyewear.

Set to launch in the U.S. and Italy in early 2025, with a wider European rollout later in the year, Nuance aims to transform the hearing solutions market.

Unlike traditional hearing aids, Nuance seamlessly embeds high-quality audio components into stylish glasses, making the technology both invisible and accessible. This innovation is designed to address mild to moderate hearing loss, a condition affecting approximately 1.25 billion people worldwide.

“We didn’t just combine two medical devices, we created entirely new smart glasses. It is not only groundbreaking, but also incredibly accessible. We’re pleased now to turn our focus to getting this life-changing technology into the hands of people,” said Chairman and CEO Francesco Milleri.

Despite the vast need for hearing assistance, adoption remains low due to factors such as stigma, discomfort, and cost. Research shows that 83% of people with hearing loss lack proper solutions. By embedding hearing support into fashionable eyewear, EssilorLuxottica aims to eliminate barriers that have long hindered consumer adoption.

To ensure global accessibility, the company will distribute Nuance through traditional hearing aid channels, select optical retailers, and its extensive retail network, reaching consumers in 150 countries. With its first product expected to launch in the second half of 2024, the Group’s Super Audio team is poised to redefine hearing care by making it as effortless and stylish as vision correction.
