Many patients suffering from diabetes and diabetic neuropathy are prone to having foot ulcers that can be remarkably difficult to manage. The best approach is to catch ulcers developing early on and to receive treatment as soon as possible. The Siren Diabetic Socks may be just the thing, as they monitor the temperature of the feet and if there’s an unusual increase, as from an injury, they let the patient know.
The socks have embedded temperature sensors and they communicate via Bluetooth to a matching app installed on the patient’s smartphone. There’s also an option to use a hub to transmit the information directly to doctors and caretakers for those people that want high-tech sensor-packed socks but refuse to use a smartphone.
The Sensor socks come in packs of five and are available in different sizes. Pre-orders are now being taken and Siren, the San Francisco company that developed the socks, expects users to sign up for its subscription service that will ship fresh, new socks every six months.
