Did you know that if you have trouble seeing the things you want to see and doing the things you want to do that there are two very important but very different eye exams?
The most recent macular degeneration book I’m reading, Out of Sight, Not Out of Mind: Personal and Professional Perspectives on Age-Related Macular Degeneration states: “A low vision rehabilitation examination and plan of care are different from a routine eye examination and the treatment for an eye disease. Both are very important. One should not replace the other, as they complement each other.”
Low Vision Optometrist
The retina specialist is responsible for monitoring your eye condition and for checking to see if there have been any changes in the retina. He/she provides treatment that may help to delay or slow the progression of vision loss from AMD.
A low vision optometrist helps to maximize the remaining vision that one does have with use of different vision aids. One specialist deals with the disease while the other one deals with visual function.
